What is Dig It!?
Dig It! is an educational, fun-filled event full of big equipment that digs and excavates. It will provide a unique, earth-moving experience to children of all ages through a series of hands-on activities, including a chance to operate heavy machinery from the driver’s seat, with the help of a certified operator. At Dig It!, children will have an opportunity to learn about building sustainable communities and trade industry careers.
When and where is Dig It!?
Dig It! public event is canceled for 2020.
Dig It! will take place at the Corner of County Roads 12 & 17, east of Mankato. You can use this address to find the location with your map:

What should I wear and bring?
Dig It! provides an authentic construction experience and you can plan on getting dirty. There will dirt, rock, and uneven ground. Close-toed shoes, sunscreen, and clothes that can get dirty are recommended. This is an outdoor event, so dress for the weather. Dig it! is scheduled to take place rain or shine.
Will there be food and beverages?
Yes; food and beverages will be available for purchase. Picnic tables in a grassy area will be provided, along with portable bathrooms, handwashing stations, and a first aid tent.

Are there volunteer opportunities?
Yes! We need volunteers and would love your help! The Children's Museum of Southern Minnesota asks that each volunteer commit to a minimum of a four-hour shift. Time blocks will range from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm the day of the event (September 26) and volunteers will receive free admission to the event.

How much does it cost to attend?
Admission at the gate will be $10 for anyone age 2 and up. If purchased ahead of time, the price of a ticket will be $8. Children 23 months and under get free admission. Tickets will be available at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota and online starting August 1st.

Everyone attending Dig It! is required to sign a waiver and all participant names must be listed. Parents or guardians must sign for minors under the age of 18.
What ages is Dig It! for?
Dig It! offers something for all ages! Certified operators will assist with mobile equipment and there will be parked machinery for children of all ages to climb on and explore. Participation in moving equipment activities is limited to children age 5 and beyond. A Kid Zone area will include a large sand pile for playing and digging. Local trade-related businesses will be giving demonstrations and providing hands-on activities throughout the day.

What happens with the money raised at the event?
Funds raised at Dig It! will support the continued success and growth of the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota. The Museum serves as a catalyst for building a stronger, more vibrant community around play so that all children in the region can share in a bright future of opportunity and well-being.
Parking
Free parking will be available at the event site. Dig It! is being held in a farm field, so there will be uneven ground, dirt paths and no sidewalks.
